The most common side effects of risedronate are:

• headache
• joint pain
• nausea. , diarrhea or abdominal pain
• rash
• high blood pressure.

Rarely, patients may experience jaw problems (osteonecrosis of the jaw) associated with delayed healing and infection after tooth extraction.

Actonel / Ribone is indicated for the treatment and prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis and Paget’s disease (a disease that weakens the bones).

Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break more easily. The main causes of osteoarthritis are aging, menopause, long-term treatment with corticosteroids, or a diet that is deficient in minerals such as calcium and potassium. There is also a genetic component.

Osteoporosis does not always have outward signs until there is a sudden bone fracture. The only definitive diagnosis can come from a bone density test. Some possible visible signs are a stooped posture, pain when swiveling the lower back at the hips, and loss of height due to spinal compression.
