Flomax / Flomaxtra XL/ Tamsulin / Omnic Ocas (
generic name: tamsulosin) is prescribed for the treatment of males with urination problems caused by
benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Omnic Ocas is the slow-release version of tamsulosin. Tamsulosin belongs to a group of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. Its effects are to block smooth muscle receptors of the prostate and urethra to improve urine flow.
Omnic Ocas is a special formulation of tamsulosin that was designed to deliver a consistent level of the drug over the full 24 hours of a dose. This can improve night and day control of symptoms.
Dosage
The dosage and regimen will be determined by the prescribing doctor. The usual dosage is one capsule per day taken with water after breakfast (or after the first meal of the day.) If a scheduled dose is accidentally missed, do not double-dose the next day to make up for the missed dose.
Tamsulosin is available from IsraelPharm in brand (Flomax / Flomaxtra XL / Omnic Ocas) and generic (Tamsulin) form. More information on the
choice between brand and generic form is available in our article.

The most common adverse effects of tamsulosin include anemia, vomiting, abnormal taste, abdominal pain, headache, muscle pain, upper respiratory tract infections, weight loss, and weakness.
Long-term use of tamsulosin can cause lower blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension), leading to dizziness or fainting. It’s advisable when rising from a sitting or lying down position to do so slowly, while holding on to something firm.
If these or other unlisted symptoms persist or worsen, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can cause difficulties in urination, necessitating frequent visits to the toilet, difficulty in beginning the flow of urine, weaker streams of urine, and greater feelings of urgency to urinate, including during sleep.
