Optalgin (dipyrone) can be used to relieve moderate to severe pain such as headaches, toothache, and menstrual pain. It can also be used to reduce high fevers that are not responding to other medication.

Dipyrone has a similar mechanism of action to acetaminophen and should not be used in conjunction with other painkillers that contain it, such as Panadol and Tylenol.

Dosage

If Optalgin is being taken after consultation with a doctor, take it only as directed. Otherwise, the recommended dose for people over the age of 15 is one to two caplets up to 4 times per day, with a maximum of 8 on any single day. Pregnant women should not take more than six caplets on one day if they are past week 28.

If it is being taken in liquid form (Optalgin Drops), the recommended dosage for people over the age of 15 is 20-40 drops up to 3 times each day. The doses for children under the age of 15 are printed on the information leaflet that comes with the medications.
